Acer Timeline Laptop Review

Acer Timeline Laptop

Acer’s new Timeline laptop series is a bold departure from what we’ve been used to in the Windows notebook world. For one, the claimed battery life is 8 hours long for the 13.3″ model despite it’s 24mm profile (i.e. less than 1 inch thick) and feather-light 1.6kg (3.5 lbs) weight.

The 15.4″ version tips the scale at 2.4kg (5.3 lbs) and both models spot a 16:9 ratio screen with a 1366×768 resolution.  The LED display is driven by Intel’s 4500MHD Graphics Media Accelerator with 64MB dedicated memory and there’s even a HDMI-out port.

Acer has also taken the heat problem with ultrathin notebooks into consideration and implemented a cooling solution called Laminar Wall Jet technology, where air is redirected along the underside of the Timeline laptop.

Under the hood, the Acer Timeline is powered by either the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.40GHz CPU or the Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 1.30GHz processor. You have a choice of either Solid-State Drive (SSD) or up to 500GB of standard hard drive. The notebook also supports up to 8GB of DDR3 1066MHz memory via two SODIMM slots.

In addition to the standard offerings of a VGA port, webcam, multi-card reader and Wifi, this laptop also comes with next-generation WiMax (4G) support. However, there is no built-in optical drive but Acer does bundle an external 8x DVD drive with the system. Another innovative feature is multi-gesture support, which allows you to pinch and swirl on the trackpad like the iPod.
